Apple has created the ultimate iPod accessory – the iPhone.
Some people may think it’s an ultimate phone because it has a full-blown video iPod built into it with a different interface than the familiar scroll wheel. But those of us who love our iPods……. it’s the best accessory yet. People started lining up in front of AT&T and Apple stores days before it was released. Kinda like an adult ‘ Tickle Me Elmo’.
Much has been made of the pros and cons of this phone even before it was sold to the public. I think the biggest con was that it doesn’t support the BlackBerry email services. This is a concern for corporate users but Yahoo Mail has free BlackBerry ‘push’ type email which works fine.
On the other hand – what an elegant piece of equipment Mr. Jobs has made. It’s so slim yet tough. The screen is made of glass instead of plastic. Go ahead and throw it in a pocket or purse. It won’t get scratched. The touchscreen keyboard takes a short time to get used to. After learning it, you’ll never want to go back. The virtual keys get larger when you touch them and the software tries to guess what you’re typing and help out.
It’s got a 2 megapixel camera built into it which takes pictures worthy of printing out. If you get an email with pictures, the pictures show in the body of the email just like on your computer. The 3.5 inch screen is the largest of all the smart phones. Your pictures show up crisp and clear. It is a true breakthrough in technology making all other smart phones look primitive.
Turn your iPhone sideways and the screen adjusts to a landscape view. Great for the built-in wi-fi browser based on the Mac’s signature Safari browser. This may be the first time many owners use a browser other than MS Explorer. Now they can see what they’re missing. The built-in wi-fi web is fast. The phone automatically switches between wi-fi networks and Edge, AT&T’s cellular data network. Hopefully in the near future, it will be able to use a faster data network like Verizon and Sprint use.
Apple has another hit on their hands with this release. It’s in its infancy now just like the original iPods were. Looking back to the first generation iPod to today’s, in just 5 years it seems like a dinosaur. The iPhone is going to revolutionize smartphones and push all competition to a new level.
As soon as my current contact is up, I’m there! Maybe the lines will be shorter by then.
